"I find it a little to get through this. Somehow reading the first book (both times) was just such a joy and it went so quickly. But the second one drags with me. I don't know why. Is the writing different? It sure is a bit slower but still. Its not doing the thing for me that made me pick up book 1 again: Quick read, no thinking, interesting enough story, reminds me of my YA teenage days lol" Aug 09, 2022 04:04AM

H.G. Wells
“It is a law of nature we overlook, that intellectual versatility is the compensation for change, danger, and trouble. An animal perfectly in harmony with its environment is a perfect mechanism. Nature never appeals to intelligence until habit and instinct are useless. There is no intelligence where there is no change and no need of change. Only those animals partake of intelligence that have a huge variety of needs and dangers.”
H.G. Wells, The Time Machine

H.G. Wells
“And I have by me, for my comfort, two strange white flowers - shriveled now, and brown and flat and brittle - to witness that even when mind and strength had gone, gratitude and a mutual tenderness still lived on in the heart of men.”
H. G. Wells, The Time Machine

J. Sheridan Le Fanu
“But to die as lovers may - to die together, so that they may live together.”
Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, Carmilla

Samantha Shannon
“Do you not see that this is a divine mission?

No, I do not, you witless cabbage.”
Samantha Shannon, The Priory of the Orange Tree

J. Sheridan Le Fanu
“Nevertheless, life and death are mysterious states, and we know little of the resources of either.”
Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, Carmilla
