I also think it would have benefited from a very thorough editing. The author obsesses repeatedly with descriptions of her urban horror at what are common realities of rural farm life (yes, raising animals for food is smelly, dirty work and farmers do take sick or weak animals into the house). So what if their parents were weird... lots of parents are. Just ask my kids! The author can't seem to separate her thoughts about farm life, from the real issue, which is that the Pickton brothers were consistently and repeatedly involved in criminal activity for most of their adult life. In my opinion, the extent of their criminality, and particularly Dave Pickton's criminal behavior is overshadowed by her obsession with how dirty the Pickton's are. She then goes on to introduce dozens of missing women and their lives and families. While this is important to add a human face to the book, it also quickly becomes repetitive and loses its impact. She repeatedly describes police indifference but has yet to describe the factors that contributed to police actions or lack thereof. I'm not finished this book yet. Maybe she will come to do that later....more
