"I'm really digging Andrew Davidson's The Gargoyle but it's a dense read. An easy read, but dense. A book to read in small doses. So I've pulled this nonfiction book, American Quest, off the shelf to ready in between breaks. It should be an interesting juxtaposition.

I suspect the two will be forever joined in my memory. Probably not confused but most liklyl hard to think of one without the other."

"The book is really intense in a totally mellow way. Pretty much each sentence deserves thought. So it's slow going. But in a good way. I've recently started reading a page or two a day. I suspect I will be reading and rereading this book for years to come." Jun 07, 2017 05:50AM

Charles Bukowski
“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”
Charles Bukowski

Ed Lynskey
“Quote taken from Chapter 1:

"The police should be in it, not us. We’re out of here.” Bill did an about-face to retrace their route to the door.

Piper whipped out a hand and snagged him by the shirttail. Her tone returned to crisp and decisive. “Slow down, Roadrunner. I’m not ready to leave. We’ve got work to do.”

Incredulous, he stared gape-mouthed at her. “You'd better explain,” he said.

She wiggled her nose. “I’m growing nosier by the second about the circumstances surrounding Anna’s murder.”
Ed Lynskey, The Corpse Wore Gingham

“From Chapter 1:

Isabel went into the kitchen. Their butterball of a beagle wagged his tail and peered up at her with his soulful brown eyes. He was eager to get his reward for looking cute as a button, and he knew she was a pushover.”
Ed Lynskey, To Dye For
