What irritates me the most is the constant bickering Hualiama and Flicker. Yes, it is only friendly ribbing but their whole dialogue mostly consist of this. It's annoying. One scene, these two bickers; the next scene, these two bickers again; in the next scene the two comes together, they are at it again. It is just so juvenile and terribly irritating.

But, the dialogue between Hualiama and Flicker isn't the only one that is puerile, almost everyone's dialogue is. Even the dignified adult characters are tainted with this immature speech that is just really off-putting.

And then, there are the characters. Hualiama is very emotional. So emotional that most of the time you will be reading about her emoting. It can be very exasperating at times, reading nothing but her and her emotions. She and her emoting is just overbearing.

Flicker could have been interesting but he mostly appears in two modes: mode #1: fussing and worrying about Hualima, mode #2: being egotistical. Essentially, his character lacks any complexity or depth. He is also very badly integrated into the story. Most of the time, his appearance feels redundant and fills the pages with pointless scenes. Flicker isn't really a bad charcter, in fact he is the most interesting character so far, but he could have been done much better and offer much more throughout the story.

The other characters… I barely care about them. They are boring, forgettable, flat and has little purpose aside from aiding or hindering Hualiama. They either assist or obstruct with a minuscule amount of personality attached to them.

The plot makes me both drowsy and befuddled at the same time. The story is told so slowly, in fact several beginning chapters we have her just healing from injuries. Most of the time, we will get long passages of characters just bickering or doing mundane stuff. At the same time, when plot or character related stuff happens, they come off as confusing or nonsensical. Like, why is this dragon helping Hualiama and why is this other dragon trying to kill her? What is with this hazing practice? There are just lots of these details that breaks apart under scrutiny.

This is overall a very inferior product. Bland characters, juvenile dialogue, inept drama, plodding plot, etc. I can't really find anything to enjoy in this one. ...more "
