but this book significantly lacks those qualities. The characters are original, but never take their place as representatives of the world they live in. Seldom do the characters influence your thoughts or create drive to further explore Dealing in Dreams, and what it has that stands out to the reader. The main protagonist sticks to cliches and fails to grow in her perception of what the world she lives in is truly like. The fundamental idea of Dealing in Dreams by Liliam Rivera is unique and different, but the book fails to execute to its fullest potential.

For the reader, the book is not very engaging and lacks imagery, which made the process of reading an uphill battle. The main characters, who are mainly female, speak in a tone that is unexciting and repetitive, which creates a gap between myself and the story. For instance, when the main protagonist Nala speaks about her life as a gang leader and as a warrior, her words come across as a bit weak and lackluster. She always speaks about her drive and how society prior was a joke, but she is always reflecting on her actual thoughts and the safety of her crew. That indecisiveness makes it hard for the reader to process her thoughts and her convictions, and internalize her words with sincerity. Dealing in Dreams uses a hierarchy of women as a template, but does not play to its strengths, or make the reader want to understand and recognize the significance of women leading society. The character’s dialogue does not create an image in the readers mind and does not bring out the vibe of Science Fiction that readers can identify. For instance, the book is a Dystopian and Science Fiction, but the only examples of technology that were significantly advanced were tronics, which are similar to blasters from Star Wars, levitating pieces of furniture or large objects, and advanced analytical software that can instantly identify almost any given being known. The dialogue did not reflect the character’s external surroundings in detail and did not describe neither the beauty nor horror of the world the characters lived in.
The Science Fiction aspect was still up in the air and that although the reader could recognize certain aspects from the story, Dealing in Dreams did not create a solid image in the readers mind. The universal image of a profoundly different, advanced world. There have been many reviews that state Dealing in Dreams is a wonderful piece unique to the writer, but such reviews do not reflect the community of readers and their thoughts. Dealing in Dreams is not recommended to those who are exploring Dystopian, Science Fiction, or both.

Dealing in Dreams by Liliam Rivera was a book that had a unique focus, but nevertheless failed to deliver on what could have been an eye opining read. The book felt as though there was a certain group of readers that it addressed, which took away from the experience. The lack of feeling from the characters and detail relating to the story was overwhelming. The story should have completely stolen the reader’s attention, but did the opposite, which did not expand the reader’s thoughts on Dystopian and Science Fiction. Dealing in Dream was a mediocre novel that had little affect on the reader and is not recommended to those looking for a meaningful experience through fiction. ...more "
