“Enlightenment is simply realizing the indisputable Truth of who you are. You are fundamentally complete in every respect, and cannot be improved upon or diminished. You gain nothing from all your effort to be more spiritual, religious, or enlightened. There is nothing to gain. Your true Self is one with God and there is nothing to add, achieve, or improve.”

“Remember too that when it comes to death, this is an agreed-upon choice between your soul, your guides, and God; it’s not entirely God’s call, as so many of my clients assume. The end of your life usually occurs when that soul, not the human, chooses to leave within a window of time called destiny. I’m told that this is also the case with children who get sick or die young. Their souls agreed to take on an illness for their growth or that of the loved ones connected to them. A lot of times when I sit with a client, they’ll say, “I asked God not to take my mom/brother/child yet, and He did!” But God isn’t kicking back in Heaven like, I’ll take . . . that one! Now this one! He’s not calling back souls the way you pluck chocolates out of a box—this truffle first, then that caramel. In fact, God isn’t doing anything to us, but for us, and even then your soul is involved.”

“They’re telling me that grief naturally pools as rainwater does,” I said. “If we have good drainage it moves through us; it fills up and drains away. But if we don’t have energy moving through us it can pool up and get swampy and heavy. All we see is this pool of grief and we begin to stare into it as Narcissus did. It can become a little bit self-indulgent. We’re not honoring the people we’re missing, the times of our lives that have changed, or the future that’s waiting for us.” None of the spirit people suggested Crystal bury or deny her grief, but rather that she find a way to move through it. Knowing she would be honoring them more by expressing her grief and letting it pass, rather than keeping it alive as a memorial, Crystal felt refreshed and optimistic about letting her usually cheerful nature surface once more.”

“If you pray and ask God to make bananas red, God won’t, because there is nothing wrong with bananas being yellow. If you pray and ask God to change your health, finances, relationships, employment, and possessions to make you happy, God won’t, because changing them won’t make you happy. Not only is there nothing wrong with the impermanence of the world, Jesus said that the Kingdom of God is present in this world of impermanence.”
