"This isn’t bad, but the story is kind of slow, and I can’t get into it. Shelving it again for now; will check it back out at a later date." — Nov 04, 2025 09:08AM

Gloria sighed. “Look at you, gonna die young and beautiful, all frozen in time like that. Christ, I’m jealous. They’re gonna dig me up a thousand years from now and say, Woo, boy, cover that one back up. Fright night.”
I loved this book. It made me laugh and laugh, and I got surprisingly swept away by the love story. (I am NOT much of a romance reader and definitely wasn’t expecting any in this book, but you can’t help rooting for the main character and his girlfriend.). I see a lot of low ratings but not sure what those people were expecting to read when they picked this up. I thought it was perfect for what it was.
Victoria liked this
“They're so excited for one day in a pretty dress... someone should really tell them. They can wear a retty dress whenever they want... Women are out there tethering themselves to mediocre men just so they can wear a ball gown. It's a shame.”

“No. I’ve never had the desire. I suppose it’s made me a pariah, especially in my youth. It was expected, and I shunned the expectation. They say things are better now, that society is more accepting if you don’t want to become a mother. I’m not sure if I find that to be true. Either you want babies or, if you don’t, you must want to eat them.”

“I gave you so much of myself,” I say, “and you wasted me.”

“What is it about a woman in full control of herself that is so utterly frightening?”

“And every time it happens, it’s like a sip of hot tea. It’s macaroni and cheese; it’s cozy slippers; it’s cashmere. It’s comfort.”
