"Not a whole lot to say to this point because much of it has been pretty bog standard epic classic fantasy as far as the characters and the events. It is perhaps a little heavier on the politics than most but not in such a way to overtake the plot so far.

I do find Kelsea a little irritating, but it tracks with her characterization so can't really fault it."

"Fake dating isn't a favourite trope of mine but the author is making this work for me both on stakes and premise. Overall the book has been delightfully breezy and easy with minimal drama. This may make it feel a bit predictable in places, and yet it still finds ways to surprise me." 2 hours, 50 min ago

"Learning the author of this book was an actress as well lent a lot of credibility to her depictions of her characters and the industry they operated in.

I will say, I do have to repeatedly remind myself what era this is not only depicting but also the era this is written in when I encounter a slur, which is fairly frequent."

“Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

“If you want to write a negative review, don't tickle me gently with your aesthetic displeasure about my work. Unleash the goddamn Kraken."

Scott Lynch

Michael J. Sullivan
“Happiness comes from moving toward something. When you run away, ofttimes you bring your misery with you.”
Michael J. Sullivan, Heir of Novron

J.R.R. Tolkien
“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

J.R.R. Tolkien
“I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
