"4/5 ⭐️

i have finished fellowship of the ring and it is fantastic. what a beautiful story, full of tender and sad moments.

i will take a break from the wonderful world of professor tolkien to read other books but i can’t wait to go back for the two towers.

each book will earn its own rating, and in the end we’ll see where we stand."

Fyodor Dostoevsky
“I exist.’ In thousands of agonies — I exist. I’m tormented on the rack — but I exist! Though I sit alone in a pillar — I exist! I see the sun, and if I don’t see the sun, I know it’s there. And there’s a whole life in that, in knowing that the sun is there.”
Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

M.L. Rio
“You know everyone calls you 'nice'...but that's not the word. You're good. So good you have no idea how good you are.”
M.L. Rio

George Eliot
“We could never have loved the earth so well if we had had no childhood in it, if it were not the earth where the same flowers come up again every spring that we used to gather with our tiny fingers as we sat lisping to ourselves on the grass, the same hips and haws on the autumn hedgerows, the same redbreasts that we used to call ‘God’s birds’ because they did no harm to the precious crops. What novelty is worth that sweet monotony where everything is known and loved because it is known?”
George Eliot, The Mill on the Floss

Homer
“Ah how shameless – the way these mortals blame the gods. From us alone they say come all their miseries yes but they themselves with their own reckless ways compound their pains beyond their proper share.”
Homer, The Odyssey

Lewis Carroll
“Alice laughed. 'There's no use trying,' she said. 'One can't believe impossible things.'

I daresay you haven't had much practice,' said the Queen. 'When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. There goes the shawl again!”
Lewis Carroll
