"My copy is only 366 pages, a dell paperback from the 1980s -- I remember reading this back when and I've been thinking about him and thought I should retread this. It is such a strong prose and powerful rendering of being an outsider and I need to internalize this book for my own writing." — Jan 26, 2013 04:55PM

"It is not 592 pages -- at least not the hard cover and the text itself ends at about 500 -- I could have ploughed through the rest but I wanted to let it sink in a bit and go back and draw a schematic of what he is claiming before I push on. I don't usually read books one then another. I usually have a pool of books live started and cycle through." — Jan 26, 2013 04:48PM

"I've been trying "romance" and I sample them on kindle, and this one is the only one that stuck so far. The ability of the narrative to both communicate her growing non-conscious sexual awakening and the naïveté and fear/enrapture of this wild magic inside her is done compellingly, although clunkier than I would wish for from any author." — Jan 26, 2013 03:50PM
