It was simply incredible. This book made me so happy in so many different ways. From page one, I always found myself excited to pick it up and read it, and I looked forward to every moment I got to spend with Fable and the gang. I loved all the characters; the crew of the Marigold were such a delight to read about. Fable’s complex relationship with Saint was so intriguing, and I never knew what she was going to do next. She’s a smart, strong-willed girl, and seeing her fight her way off Jeval and into the path of people who care about her and who are willing to give her a place in the world was an absolute joy. Feeling accepted is so important in life, and Fable really struck gold when she chose to pay the Marigold for passage. She found something more precious than all the coin needed to pay off West’s debts; she found a new family, and she found a new home.
The way each character’s arc was revealed in small twists and turns along the way was so masterfully done, and such an effective way of keeping the story moving. Every new detail breathed more life into the characters and only made me want to know them even more. They were portrayed in a way that made them feel real, and I loved each of their stories and the way they all came to accept Fable into the crew over time. I loved how secretive and closed-off West was, and how he gradually warmed up to Fable over time. I enjoyed every second of page time he had. West and Fable are two of the most well-written characters I’ve ever read about and I’m dying to see more of them in Namesake.
The setting was so rich and beautifully crafted that it seemed real. The descriptions were concise, but done in a way that I always knew exactly what everything looked like. I could always see, hear, and smell everything in the towns across the Narrows, and the captivating descriptions really immersed me in the story. The words on the page seemed to spark to life whenever I opened the book, which made it a really exciting and enjoyable read.
The book wasn’t long, but the story felt like it was the perfect length. None of it seemed to drag; every part was fast-paced and intriguing. And the ending gave me just the right amount of closure and satisfaction while still setting up for Namesake.
As you can tell, I kind of really love this book a lot. It was a masterpiece. Fable is a truly unique book that is unlike anything I have ever read before. I can’t wait to continue the story in Namesake! ...more "
