Reading the same story through Edward’s perspective was so much fun! Though the story is the “same” you gain a lot of new insights about all the characters, not just Edward. You learn more about Charlie, Carlisle, Esme, Rosalie (I think Stephenie is a little harsh on Rose though), Emmett, Alice, Jasper and even Renée. Oh, and of course Bella!

Twilight is written from Bella’s perspective. And naturally, she doesn’t really discuss her great qualities. She’s not a narcissist. Seeing her from Edward’s eyes made her so likable. I like her in the Twilight series already, but seeing what Edward sees & hearing what he hears gives you a lot of insight into her character! Her likes & dislikes. Her opinions on things. Why she acts a certain way, etc. Things you don’t get from Twilight.

Edward’s self-loathing can be a little trying at times, but I get where it comes from. I just wanna grab him by the shoulders and say, “Shut up! We all love you!” But he’s has 90 years of struggle, so that’s not easily let up, of course.

Also, I don’t really love how Stephenie portrayed Bella’s HS friends. Yeah, I know teenagers can be jealous and horny, but they’re not THAT bad. She really made Mike seem like such a dirty villain & Jessica to be such a brat. I’m just gonna ignore that though and love those characters for their silly teenagery. This also could be mostly Edward’s feelings toward them…but yeah. There’s that.

A lot of people argue that there’s no need for this book since we already have Twilight. As a Twilight fan, I disagree. I love all the characters & being able to dive deeper with them brought me a lot of happiness. Plus I love book #1 of Twilight so much it was just simply a blast to read the beloved story from another angle!
