“That is not quite true. At least not all the time. News outlets can and likely do sway public opinion all the time and likely always have done so. They ignore some news, so the population never hears about it. Or they report news items using very carefully scripted words to imply something that might not be true or to sway the viewer or reader into thinking what the news organization want them to think. “The same thing happens on the internet news sites, but at least there you can look through many different versions of the same news item and eventually draw your own conclusions.”
