Here I am with another controversial opinion about a book that seems to have won the hearts of so many readers. Initially I considered it four stars, however after some time pondering, I feel that there was essentially something missing in this book and with that thought a higher rating will only be possibly considered on a further sequel. I hope so.

Don't get me wrong. I am a big fan of fantasy and I can say that the fantastic elements were definitely what won my heart. The story, the rules of the world, the mythical beings and all that they represent. The author undoubtedly didn't leave her enthusiasm aside while writing about it, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know every detail and realizing how I would have zero chance of getting as far as Violet did.

However, I felt that in Fourth Wing, everything that had to happen has already happened in one book and I don't understand how they are planning more books for this saga. We had so much going on in this first one, that by the end I ended up thinking: okay, what can she write more about this? I know there are political issues to be resolved, I know the reveal in the ending also helps to pull the subject into a second book, but I read recently that she plans to write five. Another detail I didn't like much either was the romance. Not the chemistry between the two characters, but the way it occurred and how it already happened. I wasn't expecting the whole romance to happen already in this first book, but the fact is that it did. I thought it was going to be something slower and more intense due to the circumstances. I am curious to see how the relationship between Violet and Xaden will develop and what adventures they will face not only as a couple, but also as pioneers in a revolution.

Finally, I also need to mention that I would like to adopt a dragon. I found the way they were provided in this book fascinating, and I dare say they were perhaps the highlight of my experience. I really enjoyed understanding that although they are very individual beings with a will of their own, they are beings that are capable of creating connections, and that they thus honor of all that they believe in. I am very excited to see more of them in the next book.
