The rereading season of the year has begun, and every year is a year to read Sarah J.Maas' books, so I ignored the first - which I tried to reread but didn't finish - and immediately moved on to the second.

It's still a five-star read for me, and it's still one of my favorite books in fantasy, but after exploring other books by the author and reading other stories, I think I can safely say that this is not her best book.

We know that it ends up being a fresh start: Feyre is back in Spring Court after all she has been through Under the Mountain and we know that she carries the trauma that the situation created, so yes, I think that acomaf ends up being her journey to heal and to try to move on after the sacrifice. However, there were certain scenes where I rolled my eyes while reading. Feyre has some attitudes that to me are unnecessary and before stating this I tried to question her trauma to see if it came from there, but I think it really ends up being her personality. A little dramatic in certain situations when there was not necessarily a reason to be and it bothered me sometimes to see Feyre expressing a kind of feeling and not acting accordingly. Another detail that bothered me was the ending. I can't make peace with the fact that we have two of the most powerful Prythian beings in a room and neither of them was able to prevent what happened to Feyre’s sisters. I think there are certain details that after a few re-readings end up shining less brightly than they did before.

It was the feeling and will always be that reason that makes me give the book five stars. The introduction of the Inner Circle, the plot development with the King of Hybern, the introduction of the queens, the deeper knowledge of other courts, Feyre's journey, the conflicts and the hope the others placed in her. I can't help but mention that this book was not just for Feyre - we see at the same time a Rhysand learning to live with what happened. Traumatized in the same way as her, little by little we also get a chance to notice that with each other's help, and almost unconsciously, the two are reborn, and I think it's fantastic to see the book from that perspective. Before he was anything else, he was Feyre's friend.

Week after week, he'd fought for me, even when I had no reaction, even when I had barely been able to speak or bring myself to care if I lived or died or ate or starved. I couldn't leave him to his own dark thoughts, his own guilt. He'd shouldered them alone long enough."

I am looking forward to rereading ACOWAR, as it is my favorite book in this series. My focus has always been on secondary couples because usually authors give us nothing more than scraps of these characters. In ACOWAR we have great scenes between Nesta and Cassian that I love. I also plan to reread ACOSF once I finish the trilogy. ...more "
