- 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄:
I DEVOURED this book, utterly and completely gobbled it up. I have been in SUCH a book slump for ages and I honestly couldn't get out of it. After looking around I came across this book that suggested that fans of FBAA and ACOTAR would like this book. Now at first I rolled my eyes because these days I swear EVERY book review says that but then I said screw it and read it anyway because I do love those books. I think the thing that I loved the most about this was the development between Oraya and Raihn. Oraya truly did hate him in the beginning and was so scared of him because of how she was raised by her father but Raihn saw this and rather than get angry he tried and succeeded and truly did get to understand her and was so patient with her even when she frustrated him (and me)
Also to see the development and the trust build was heart melting, like when she went from no you can't come near me or I'll kill you to their first kiss! Urgh, so good! They also both had trauma and only by working together could they overcome the trials and their own fears! Oh and also when he bit her for the first time! 🥵 Good golly miss dolly that was some STEAM! I mean I was FLUSTERED and its hard to phase me with smutty scenes these days. So round of applause for all the spicy scenes because they were sublime.
Now I have to talk about the ending so SPOILERS AHEAD.......
But omfg I DIED inside when Reihn betrayed Oraya. The pain she felt when she watched the man she loved (the man who she sacrificed her wish for, HER fathers wish for) betrayed her by killing her father and revealing he is not only her sworn enemy but the KING of her sworn enemy! Honestly I felt like throwing my Kindle across and screaming into the sky WHY!? Obviously I didn't because I would never do that to my baby! He gave reasonably valid reasons but I will be expecting ALOT of grovelling in the next book especially since he forced her to marry him.
- 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴
The world building was good, it explained the war between the vampires and humans and how the hierarchy worked. The story centers on two main gods as well and I love how they had their own stories just like we do in today's different regions. I wish there was more interaction with the gods once they met them as I quite enjoyed Nyaxia, I thought she was amusing. But I imagine we will get that in the next book.
𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀: I need to be fair here because this book wasn't perfect, okay so it basically was but I feel I have to put something here so I'm at least a little bit impartial. I feel like for a slow burn there could have been more close proximity moments you know? I mean they lived together and we didn't get anything until 60%ish through the book
It was all about the training and I get that to a certain extent, because you know, fighting for their lives and all that, but come on now? Close proximity we could have had some near moments!! WE COULD HAVE HAD ONE A ONE BED TROPE at least 😫 There were a good amount of sexual tension but I needed MORE. Also I found the ending was a bit rushed and she killed all the finalists really quickly and then all of a sudden betrayed and she marries him in less than 2 pages. But it I'm honest that's really nit-picking and it didn't phase me that much...
𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻:
I truly enjoyed this and if you love enemies to lovers, vampire romance, trials and good character development with a nice touch of spice you will love this too.
