“Good morning,” one of the soldiers said. “I’m Captain Joseph Walker and this is Sergeant James Vanetten. We are members of the One-Hundred-and-First Airborne Division, Fort Campbell.”
Wanda nodded
“May we know your name?”
“Wanda May Divine.”
“Are David and Thomas the first and middle names of your husband?”
“Yes.”
“Is he currently deployed in Afghanistan?”

“12. The common man has to fight to survive each day
But when his Lord demands his homage to pay
The common man has to fight another way
With sword or axe or spear, whatever his Lord doth say
The common man just hopes to live beyond this frightening day
And asks for the courage not to turn and run away”
― The Empress

“That noise you are hearing, drowning out
the blows of life, is the wind touching the fronds of the thirty or so eighty-foot-tall palm trees encircling the centrally located swimming pool. You have fun thinking this sound might be the Holy Spirit.”
