"A Hint of an Explanation - Very very good! Greene digs a little bit into religion in a fun story told by a stranger on a train. I can see why people compared Shusako Endo to Graham Greene re: Silence.

Greek Meets Greek was actually a very funny story. A comedy about idiots. Straightforward, not this "irony" crap the kids like."

Philip Larkin
“Morning, noon & bloody night,
Seven sodding days a week,
I slave at filthy WORK, that might
Be done by any book-drunk freak.
This goes on until I kick the bucket.
FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT FUCK IT”
Philip Larkin, Philip Larkin: Letters to Monica

Cormac McCarthy
“If much in the world were mystery the limits of that world were not, for it was without measure or bound and there were contained within it creatures more horrible yet and men of other colors and beings which no man has looked upon and yet not alien none of it more than were their own hearts alien in them, whatever wilderness contained there and whatever beasts.”
Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian, or, the Evening Redness in the West

Werner Herzog
“Look into the eyes of a chicken and you will see real stupidity. It is a kind of bottomless stupidity, a fiendish stupidity. They are the most horrifying, cannibalistic and nightmarish creatures in the world.”
Werner Herzog

Mark Twain
“The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.”
Mark Twain

Frank Herbert
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Frank Herbert, Dune
