Ma-ihey-yiheh?
A very well researched book! When I finished I felt I better understood the tragedy of the Israeli/Palestinian crisis. The history is set around two families: one forced from their beloved home and another receiving the home and promised a better life in a new safe haven for the Jewish people. In a meeting one can only consider an extraordinary risk, a Jewish daughter (Dalia)and a Palestinian son (Bashir) from each family form a friendship. Over the years, each of them hear and share hard truths. It will leave you sad, heartbroken and confused but you will be glad for the voices of Dalia and Bashir. It will also help you listen with greater understanding and empathy for the individuals and families lost and still struggling in such despair and fear. I highly recommend.

“And on the subject of burning books: I want to congratulate librarians, not famous for their physical strength or their powerful political connections or their great wealth, who, all over this country, have staunchly resisted anti-democratic bullies who have tried to remove certain books from their shelves, and have refused to reveal to thought police the names of persons who have checked out those titles.
So the America I loved still exists, if not in the White House or the Supreme Court or the Senate or the House of Representatives or the media. The America I love still exists at the front desks of our public libraries.”
