The book starts off with Greg Heffley telling what he wants to do this summer, But when his mom surprises him on a road trip. He didn’t want to go on a road trip because his plan was to stay home and watch tv all day. Dad was excited about this because he bought a boat a couple months back and was waiting to use it. When they got the boat out from under the deck it wasn’t in very good condition.

So they used it for extra space to carry their supplies. While they were on the road Greg's mom put in a Spanish learning disc to get things started on their trip. No one really paid attention to the disc, except for Greg’s little brother Manny. But he played it a different way than what you are supposed to play. Their first stop on the trip was a motel to stay in for the night Greg and his big brother Rodrick were excited for the pool but there were kids already taken up the whole thing. After the night they went to a fair and there was a contest for the foulest shoe. Rodrick entered and got first place and the judges took his shoe to the championship. So now Rodrick is left with one shoe for the rest of the book. After the shoe competition they went to wander around finding mom in line guessing a pig's weight. Once they were up they got but the prize was a baby pig so have a pig for the rest of the book.

Once they were on the road again Greg’s mom had three that the family could go to everybody except Greg’s mom picked a water park. So they went to the water park once they were done in the water there stuff was gone. So they told the manager but he couldn’t do anything so they moved on. A couple of hours later their car broke down and two men came over to help but they only spoke Spanish. So the parents are out of luck but someone their family was speaking perfect Spanish. Manny was speaking Spanish because of the disc mom played in the car. So the men gave them a drive to the nearest repair shop. Once their car was fixed they went straight home. ...more "
