As I sit here and try to collect my thoughts and even begin what to say First of all—I need book two IMMEDIATELY. Second, I’m gonna need some streaming network to pick this up and turn it into a TV series. I need to see Draevyn and Esmyra come alive.

As I sit here and try to collect my thoughts and even begin what to say about this astonishing book, it’s hard to even find the words for it. The amount of adventure, emotion, betrayal, discovery, history, creatures—all of it—phenomenal. I could envision everything—from the ships, to the sea, to Esmi’s transformations, the kingdoms. When I’m able to do that, it makes the story so much more captivating. It pulls me in beyond the words of the page themselves.

Esmyra is a force to be feared, not only because she is ultimately terrifying, but because of what lies underneath—her magic, unlike any other. Not only is she a pirate on the most feared ship of the seas with the most notorious Captain Blackwood—she’s a weapon. A siren that can wield the sea to her will.

Draevyn, The Phoenix, is to be feared of his power to conjure fire without any hesitation. But he sails the seas because that’s where he feels at home. Not in the kingdom. Not at the palace. Until he meets Esmyra. The amount of tension between the two, the banter alone, you knew deep down there was something hidden in their souls. They were both just too focused on trying to either kill each other or keep each other alive.

Every bit of this adventure kept me so intrigued and wanting to be invested deeper into the unknown with these characters. I couldn’t help but feel for each of them. I wanted to be apart of that journey with them. I wasn’t prepared to be left broken and angry at the end of this book. And now, here I sit, wallowing in my feelings, trying to get back to real life. All the while wanting to dive back into the sea of creatures and power and follow Esmyra’s path of destruction. I cannot recommend this book enough. There’s so much to it and I cannot wait to read the next one.
