12/14/24: if you want a real review, just look under this one. i did my second and last reread of the year with the illustrated version and man. they are gorgeous. i needed more of them honestly. i love this book more and more each time.

06/11/24: reread done. i think this first book will always remain my favorite book from the series (and favorite book period.) it’s gruesome, if we’re being real. at the end with the mutts, having the physical characteristics and eyes as the tributes. the movie will always be amazing and my favorite, but the book is something everyone gotta read once im very passionate about this. you learn so much more just from being inside katniss’ head. even the importance of the mockingjay pin, given to her from madge and the big reason rue decided to trust her, which was the start of it all right there. the mentions of katniss’ father are endless throughout the books. one scene i always forget is the conversation that katniss and peeta have up on the garden rooftop. my brain, after a billion and 1 rereads, finally realized exactly how peeta lost his leg. not because of cato, because of the mutts at the very end and bleeding out. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!! plate of corn moment. which leads to to desperation we see in katniss when they finally get lifted up into the hovercraft and they take peeta away (foreshadowing.) katniss losing her hearing is a big factor too in the latter half, it’s not something i forget but it’s important. BUT THE MORE FUN AND NON DEPRESSING FACTORS, i always love talking about how silly and sarcastic/dry peeta and his humor is. genuinely one of my favorite things ever which makes me love peeta so incredibly bad. katniss is also silly and clueless, but that’s okay. everlark forever guys. the hunger games is in my blood. anything less than 5 stars, and i never want to speak to you again. i could write a whole essay about this but i will stop myself here. i felt the strong need to give a real, review. which is that i love this book and everything about it.

08/14/23: while rereading this for the billionth time, i had the realization that this book goes on a much deeper level. i love sarcastic peeta with my entire life.

03/29/23: this needs to be taught in schools. like it is real literature, a classic even. my love for this book, katniss, and peeta will never fade.
