So I’ve always found it bizarre that mortals are unpleasantly shocked when they find themselves dead or on their way home. I mean, death is everywhere. Everywhere. Flowers die, and mortals have to replant them in the spring. Leaves fall from the trees year after year and rot. Birds drop dead out of the sky; their babies fall from the nest before they ever spread their wings. A beloved dog breathes one last breath and rips a hole in a man’s heart, as if it were a surprise rather than an inevitability.

How the fuck do humans manage to look away and why do they want to look away to begin with? […] It made me wonder, what’s so great about living that you wouldn’t want to die?
