Mistborn has a few more plot holes and a much more textbook plot when you look at the fundamentals of it. But god damn I have never felt a series like I felt this one, I have never been so immersed in a book that I forgot I was reading and I forgot about time, it’s like I opened this book and after a couple of pages I was just gone, completely inside my own head.

This review is somewhat of a comparison to stormlight since it’s an obvious comparison (both because it’s my favourite series and because it’s also written by Sanderson). While stormlight is dark from a character perspective, the world itself isn’t all that dark and I never felt utterly creeped out by some scenes like I did in mistborn. The world of mistborn is just a lot more disturbing and eerie and I absolutely adored that. SPOILER (mistborn and stormlight): another thing I loved was the fact that the main characters have no plot armour, he killed off one of the three (I’m counting elend) main characters in first book, 2 of the main supporting characters and possibly the most important non protagonist’s love interest in the second book leaving the man utterly lost and then killed the other 2 main characters in the final book. This was both crushing and just really nice to see. I absolutely adore stormlight but let’s be real, there are two main character deaths (ehlokar and teft) and that’s over nearly 5000 pages of writing.

In conclusion this is one of the best (maybe not in a purely ‘best plot line’ or ‘best writing’ kind of way but in an engagement kind of way) series I have ever read. I have never read anything close to as good as mistborn and stormlight. ...more "
