As much as I LOVE the idea of a Sapphic, enemies-to-lovers, forbidden, time travel romance (like come ON), this one was .... maybe not it.

This starts off slow, sweet, tender, and burning with passion. I enjoyed it, I was excited for the romance and the frustration to build up, as one does when dealing with the enemies-to-lovers trope. But at some point that enjoyable passion slips dangerously into eroticism.. which is the point and is usually ALWAYS welcome but.. there's only so much eroticism that can be described in eating pancakes. Even for the biggest pancake fetishist, I'm sure. I really felt as if I was intruding while reading Red and Blue's letters to each other. Like damn... I really shouldn't be reading these. It was like reading OG Morticia and Gomez in letter form, and I finally understood Wednesday's distaste for her parents' obsessions with each other.

This book gets too lost in poeticism to a point where I was genuinely laughing at what was written. And now I feel like a bully!!!! Even now I'm thinking about it and laughing and feeling even MORE like a bully!!!!!!!! But I don't know how I was supposed to take it all so seriously! There was no background, nor was there substantial growth in both characters that really made them feel relatable or desirable in the way the authors intended. The mechanisms of this world flew right over my head, I really didn't know what was going on most of the time. Which was disappointing as the time travel parts in the climax seemed like they would be really cool with a bit more context. Before you can be poetic, you first have to let the reader know what you're being poetic about. And I simply just did not know.

I WANTED to like this book, I did. I'm sure if I read it again I would like it more and understand it better, but I don't really have the motivation to do that right now. Maybe one day. Until then, this can sit pretty at a good ol' ✨️2.5✨️ ...more "
