This is so true. Decades ago, I bent over backwards to try and help an out-of-state relative who was recovering from drug problems. I sent him gifts, called from time to time, and more. When I went out to spend time with the family, he stole money from me to help pay for his girlfriend's abortion. I was truly heartbroken.
