The writer of the book is Stephen Chbosky, there is not only a book but a movie as well. To me, this book tells you about your life choices, always choosing bad things to do as a teen like smoking, partying all night until you get drunk and pass out.

This book is about the main character, Charlie, he is only 15 years old, he enters high school and is pretty nervous for his first day. I realize he is only making friends with the seniors at the school, not people his age, which is pretty weird. In the book, he begins to write letters to someone or himself by writing "dear friend". In each letter he discusses his first year at high school and his struggles with his traumatic experiences from the past and the suicide of his only friend, Michael Dobson and also his aunt Helen. Charlie loves reading and writing, his English teacher, he calls "Bill" helps him to improve on both, he assigns him extracurricular books and reports.

He then meets two pairs of teenagers named Sam and Patrick, Charlie has a huge crush on Sam even though she is way older then him. She doesn't want Charlie to think of her "that way". He talks about his family issues at home, his first party he attended to and he was very happy although, people forced him to get high and drink. At the party, he trips and he immediately has flash blacks of his Aunt Helen, who died in a car crash on her way to buy him a birthday gift. As the year ends, Charlie is anxious about losing his older friends as they move on to a new chapter of their life. Charlie eventually comes to terms with his past. "Even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there".

What I like about the book is that it teaches me a sense of life and how it is as a teenager that looses almost everything. Some of the parts in the letters are actually real as to Stephen, which is really unbelievable because how could so many tragic stuff happen in one year to a teenager?

I do personally recommend this book if you want to know about another teenagers life. If you want to know how it feels to be in a life where its all the teenagers doing things they're not supposed to. I'll give this a 5 out of 5. ...more "
