I have always been a fan of poetry but when I read the poem "The Un-forgotten Touch" in this book I felt so bad for the poor lit To be honest, I just picked this book up in SSR because I needed a book to read. I started reading it and liked it a lot. I have always been a fan of poetry but when I read the poem "The Un-forgotten Touch" in this book I felt so bad for the poor little girl who was being sexually abused by her father that i just had to keep reading. All this little girl could do was stay there until the abuse was over. It made me think about the kids who go through that abuse and how they have to get through the though situation. This book has a bunch of different poems about children's stories of there experience with child abuse. There are poems about how they were hit by there parents, sexually abused by there fathers or even bulled by others. Usually I don't like these books because they gross me out, but this book makes me feel like I should appreciate my childhood and life more. There are so many kids out there that are getting molested by there, so called "loved ones," that I feel like I need to start to be thankful for what I have. I have never been sexually abused before so I guess I can't really relate to these kids situations, but I feel like when I'm read these poems I am feeling exactly what the kid is telling. I think these poems in this book do a good job on touching your emotions and getting you to realize what some children's home life is like. Another poem in this book was called "My Inside Scars." It was about a 34 year old lady telling her story of her childhood. She was telling how her 'inside scars' are still there and how she thinks about what her parents would say and do to her. After all those years of being away from her parents and having a good life, she still had those memories and act different than other 34 year olds because of her childhood abuse. This poem reminds me of someone I know who never really had a good life when she was younger. This lady is so controlling of her kids and makes sure her kids are in everything and are perfect. This is because she doesn't want her kids to have the life that she had growing up. She doesn't want them going through the things she went through. I think this lady that I know is doing the right thing but she can be a little over controlling and to protective. I mean I guess that can be understanding from what she has to know about parenting. This book just gave me a better perspective and understanding of what some children's home life is like. I think that I will respect them more now because of this book so I give thanks to this book for showing me what can happen to kids that are getting raped and sexually abused. ...more "
