Maas-sive. 🌍 The story progression, character development, arcs, themes, and ALL OF THE F*CKING PLOT TWISTS that I’m still emotionally recovering from? Painfully perfect. 😵‍💫

I knew Sarah J. Maas would deliver—but I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about her writing an urban fantasy murder mystery. 🕵️‍♀️ Turns out, she ate and left no crumbs. The tension? Palpable. The pacing? Addictive. The way she assembled e.v.e.r.y. t.i.n.y d.e.t.a.i.l.? Mind-blowing. Bryce is a powerhouse of a character—equal parts sassy badass and emotionally wrecked—I love her.

I won’t lie—the world-building is a lot. Especially the first chunk of the book. There’s an overwhelming amount of characters, lore, politics, and history. If I wasn’t so invested by Bryce and the plot, I probably would have DNF’d it. But somehow, I got hooked. The intrigue this book brought forth had an absolute grip me. I just couldn’t stop listening. (Dramatized audiobook was AMAZING)

I also feel the need to admit that this was my first listen-through, and to be honest, I feel like I’d need to listen to it again just to fully absorb all the lore, world-building, and everything I missed the first time around. The amount of detail Maas packs into this world is impressive, but SO much to take in.

Also, the cussing? Relentless. 🤬 Every other sentence has a f*ck in it, and honestly, same. SJM’s third-person omniscient POV, though? Different. There was zero room for imagination—I knew exactly what every character was feeling at all times. Handy for my overthinking brain (finally, some peace 😌), but I do wish there had been a little mystery about the love interest’s emotions. Let me stew in my feelings a little, damn.

And that last third of the book??? I LOST MY ENTIRE MIND. 😭👏 I laughed, I cried, I considered throwing my headphones, I screamed in the shower. And one character’s arc? I have never sobbed so hard for a character in my life. Ugly crying. Face in my hands. Could not breathe. 😭💔

Incredible incredible book especially if you love high-stakes fantasy with characters who will emotionally ruin you😤🔥 ...more "
