Wow. I have never been this surprised by a book in a really long time. it had its slow start but it really did pick up after you get 50 pages in. This really was not what I expected at all in that it was a lot darker then I thought that it was ⭐️4.5⭐️
Wow. I have never been this surprised by a book in a really long time. it had its slow start but it really did pick up after you get 50 pages in. This really was not what I expected at all in that it was a lot darker then I thought that it was going to be in terms of the faries but I absolutely loved it! i need to go back and re-read some parts because I think that I definitely missed things (partly due to the times that I was reading this at night) but I would want to read this again anyways because it was so so good. The language and the story telling in this book was insane. I loved the format that this book was in. Having the journal entries to tell the story was such a cool cool touch and added so much. The unfinished sentences and the miscounting of the days was so so well done.
I also really loved the romance as a sort of sub plot to the whole story. As a whole, I think that this story is not entirely a romance. It focused on the village and Emily's research on the Folk and the found family-ness that comes out of it. But, I really do love Wendell as a character and I really love Emily. Emily to me was giving vibes of being neurodivergent in the way that she was talking about reading people and the not liking being in crowds. The overall actions and tone that Emily has especially when it comes with the folk was really giving those vibes. (having a hyperfixation) Though I loved her as a flawed character. She helps the people just to get more research and more evidence that the Folk exist and to have more experiences to write about. She realizes this and doesn't really accept the peoples gratitude at first. Though, I think that she was using that as an excuse not to get too attached to those people. (which did happen haha)
I did think however, that the romance between Wendell and Emily was a bit rushed? There were signs of his liking of her from the beginning but I felt like it was not that drawn out if that makes sense.
Also that ENDING?! Was insane. Does the ending with the short story mean that Wendell has known who Emily was at the start and just was searching for his lost love? Does that explain why Emily has an interest with the Folk in the first place? Because she was in this castle with the Folk the whole time? This just means that I am definitely reading the second book whether it has to do with their particular story or not. ...more "
