what a masterpiece, honestly. this so quickly and easily became one of my all time favorite rom-coms. i genuinely have never laughed out loud as many times as i did while reading this book - from the very first chapter, i was hooked, literally cackling out loud.

this book has it all: a perfect second chance romance with incredible character development for both MCs, SO much yearning and tension that will have you giggling and kicking your feet, laugh out loud quips and jokes, and really important commentary on chronic illness and what’s it’s like to live with an invisible illness, the abysmal state of our healthcare in the US, and how helpful something like cannabis can be for someone who’s struggling.

i absolutely adore Laura’s voice throughout the story - i could just tell that she put her whole heart and soul into this, and i enjoyed every. single. second!!! the way that she showed how helpful cannabis can be for people with chronic illness, or people struggling with their mental health - OR for people that just want to have a silly goofy fun time and disconnect from the harsh realities of the world for a bit, was perfect. she also clearly put a lot of personal experiences into this with how she spoke about the many failings of our healthcare system on so many different levels. as someone who works in emergency medicine, i related to both Nomi and Julian in different ways, which just made me love this book all the more.

Nomi is one of my new favorite FMCs. she’s wildly intelligent and dedicated to staying educated on up to date research on different disease processes so she can provide the best possible assistance to the people she’s promised to help. she’s hilarious, quick witted, and so incredibly strong, even when her insides feel like they’re going to explode and kill her. she struggles badly with her fear of how people will perceive her and the fact that she has Crohn’s, but one of my favorite things about this story was seeing her overcome that and let people in to see all her and her struggles.

and Julian - a disgraced emergency medicine physician who’s ousted from his fellowship and forced to return to his hometown to help run a family medicine clinic, much to his dismay. what a hot mess of a man he is. he’s angry, hard-headed, stubborn, and convinced that his way is the only way. but the one thing that brings him to his knees and forces him to question everything he thought he knew? Nomi. this man is down BAD. like diabolically bad - and i ate up every single moment of his pathetic yearning and grovelling. even when you want to throttle Julian for being such a big dumb idiot at multiple points throughout the book, you still can’t help but root for him and the huge softie underneath. and his short shorts certainly don’t hurt!!! Julian is truly an expert yearner, while also being an expert at shooting himself in the foot (relatable, honestly). his growth throughout the book was so perfect and made me fall so hard for him.

and when they finally stopped fighting the pull between them and came together??? SWOON. the chapters of so much tension and yearning paid off in every way and was WELL worth the wait 🥵

all of the side characters were amazing and added so much to the story - especially the icon that is Aunt Edna. i aspire to be her when i grow up. i loved Julian’s mom, Nomi’s friends, Dr. Appa, and all of the chaotic-good members of Julian’s family.

there were so many little things and small details that made me love this book even more. as someone who grew up going to Cape May on vacation every summer, i YEARNED to be a Wildwood family. every time my parents allowed us to take a day trip to Wildwood to go to the boardwalk, it was the best day of my life - so i deeply resonated with Nomi’s love for this little beach town. seeing Nomi & Julian come together at this point was everything i needed and more.

i genuinely feel like i could write a novel about how much i loved this book (which, to be honest, i already have). but i cannot stress it enough - THIS BOOK IS AMAZING AND I BEG YOU TO READ IT WHEN IT COMES OUT ON MAY 19th. ...more "
