"Last 50 pages or so I find myself struggling even more. I will see it through since I've made it so far, however it is a big disappointment to me. For a book that wants to focus on Women in Vietnam War and its aftermath I expected a lot more. Definitely a strong female model protagonist (not even close) along with other strong women (non existent). A letdown really." — Jan 20, 2026 06:26AM

“To be kind is more important than to be right. Many times, what people need is not a brilliant mind that speaks but a special heart that listens.”

“And so, when a person meets the half that is his very own, whatever his orientation, whether it's to young men or not, then something wonderful happens: the two are struck from their senses by love, by a sense of belonging to one another, and by desire, and they don't want to be separated from one another, not even for a moment.”

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
