“Science is about the use of reason to constantly open up new knowledge, whereas religion uses reason to affirm what is already known and to refute anything that conflicts with it. The supreme irony is that, in the end, it may be that science will be what reveals the ultimate knowledge religion already claims to possess--not a God outside and humanlike but a God at the center of all things and utterly unlike anything we can imagine. Maybe that's why we have brains and reason and science and, yes, evolution to get us to that ultimate destination.”
