I chose to write about her because of how her character changes throughout the book. When Winnie first sees Jesse Tuck she is kind of stubborn saying," I can drink out of the water too because its my wood." Then when Winnie hears the Tuck's story she starts to wonder if she should believe them or not. When she gets to the Tuck's House she starts to get mixed feelings. Over dinner she tries to say to herself she shouldn't like them because they kidnapped her, but she really can't because the Tucks were also very kind to her. On two boat rides the first with Tuck then Miles. She learns why she has to keep the secrecy from Tuck. She is unsure about the secret and keeps thinking about it. Winnie's time with Miles helps her realize she really does have to keep their secret. Winnie's feelings (to me) are one of the important reasons this book is so interesting. Her character goes from someone who feels like a trapped, caged animal to a girl who gets an new adventure filled with excitement. I really enjoy the author's way of describing not just Winnie's feelings, but everyone else's too.

I am almost finished with the book Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. I think the theme of this book is adventure and friendship. Adventure is a huge part of the book, because ever since Winnie ran away and saw Jesse at the spring a whole entire journey began to unfold. That's just one of the examples of adventure in this book making it so interesting. Especially the trip to the Tuck's house. Hearing about their story was like another fascinating journey. That part was one of my favorites and I thought it really stated the theme. Also when Winnie goes out on the pond with Angus and then to catch fish with Miles. Those, like the part about the Tuck's story really made me feel adventurous although they were only small sections of the book. The second part of the theme is friendship. I think that because even though that they kidnapped her, she stood up for them against the constable. When she said she wanted to come with the Tucks (but she really didn't at first) that showed true friendship. Another time towards the end of the book, Winnie voluntarily offers to pretend to be Mae Tuck in jail while the Tucks ran away. That really shows friendship and can be another example of another one of Winnie's small adventures. That is what I think the theme is really about. ...more "
