Stephanie Garber laces magic through her pages. The writing is utterly beautiful and captivating. I want to savour every word! Evangeline is a new character to go with the new series by Ms Garber, and I adore her! Evangeline Fox seems to be the living embodiment of hope. “Hope is a difficult thing to kill, just a spark of it can start a fire”. The author carries this theme throughout.

Let’s talk about Jacks… I am obsessed with him as a character. I just can’t get enough, he’s like a bottle of Fortuna’s Fantastically Flavoured Water I just gulp him down every time! While Jacks appears to be all hard edges and villain-esque you can’t help but feel there’s a softer side to him, something that he won’t let just anyone see.

We met Jacks in the Caraval series and in truth I fell in love with him there so when OUABH was released with the continuation of his story I was so excited and Stephanie Garber did not disappoint.

The author has said OUABH is its own series and you don’t have to read the Caraval series first, however, I feel like coming into this book knowing the background feels so special. We see some character crossovers which I always love, it feels so much more like you’re in the world when you already know the history. There are spoilers for the Caraval series in here as well so in my opinion to get the full experience of both series you would be best to read the Caraval books first then OUABH. ...more "
