This is the most masterful short story collection that I have ever read. The different stories complement one another, and give perspectives on marriage, solitude, and youthful innocence that complement and expand on one another. My particular favorites were “A temporary matter,” “This blessed house,” and “The third and final continent.” “Sexy” and “The Treatment of Bibi Haldar” are close on the list, too, because there are truly no misses in this collection. Particularly in TTAFC, Lahiri manages to wrap up not just the story of the narrator, but also of the entire collection. It’s a passage that I know I’ll be rereading time and time again.
