I will never forgive a single Raven. Now, strap in, because I've got a lot to say about this book.

Let's start with Kevin's entire visit to CA. His shared trauma with Jean is beyond devastating. On the one hand, they're the only people who can understand the Nest; on the other, that very fact makes it impossible for them to even talk about it. I also have to note that Kevin was constantly in Jean's space (fixing his collar, etc.) which was insane. And for Jean to say "I hate you"??? Monsieur Moreau, je connais Andrew Minyard, we know what you really mean.

Speaking of my favorite goalie, the confrontation between him and Jean??? I'm tearing the walls of my house down!!!!! oh my god!!!!! I never expected we'd see these two properly interact, and it delivered on every front. Jean and Neil might be two sides of the same coin, forever almost partners, but Andrew is Jean's true mirror. Their parallels are horrible. Both of them have the inability to be upset over anything that happens to them but are ferociously protective over those they care about. It's also incredibly important to both of their healing to learn how to have fun on the court, and that is very dear to me.

Weirdly, I don't have too much to say on Jeremy's banquet reveal. It was both what I was and wasn't expecting. After the Hemmicks, I can deal with this homophobic set of parents much better. And while I won't focus on the negatives, know there are several characters in this book who are the fucking worst. Put me on the court with them. I'm getting red carded and suspended for the rest of the season (call me Andrew Minyard with that 5-game suspension).

As for the literal suns in this book, I LOVE the Trojans. They are so different from the foxes with their giant (normal-sized) team and bright energy. Laila has to be my favorite. I love that she's developing into a main character and has been further fleshed out in this book. Her and Cat are absolute gems. And the way the Trojans adore Jean is achingly sweet. The Double D squad crack me up. I loved them asking Jean to stay and gossip with them on the bus. I can't believe Jean has friends (and names them as such!!). IT HURTS.

Really, Jean's healing journey is so dear to me. Nora truly delivered with this one. Jean had so many good and DESERVED moments in this book. He finally, FINALLY said he deserved to get better, and oh man, oh boy, can you see how tenderly crushing it is? Thank god it's "better to be reckless fools than Ravens." ...more "
