I don’t know how it’s possible that I’ve never written a review for A Court of Thorns and Roses, considering it’s been my favorite series for almost 10 years. Like genuinely—this book started it all for me. I first read it ages ago, completely fell in love with the world and the characters, and I’ve probably reread it five times since. But this time? This time I read it in English—and let me tell you, it hit so different. All those quotes I’ve been obsessed with for years? Finally seeing them on the actual page? Yeah, that did things to me.

Now let’s be honest—ACOTAR is definitely the weakest book in the series. That’s not even a hot take, just facts. But it still pulls you into this magical, dangerous, beautiful world and sets the stage for something so much bigger. It’s like the calm before the emotional hurricane.

Feyre, my complicated queen. She’s smart—like scary smart—and then she says something so painfully dumb you can’t help but squint at the page. One second she’s outsmarting a literal death worm, the next she’s out here saying “two is a lucky number because it’s me and Tamlin.” Babe… no. But I love her for it. She’s fierce, stubborn, traumatized, and still somehow manages to save everyone with no powers and no support. Feyre’s arc begins here, and I’ll forever respect her for surviving what she did and still choosing to fight.

Now. Let’s talk Tamlin. Or actually… let’s not talk too much about Tamlin, because this is not a first-time-reader reaction and I’ve read the rest. I get why we all fell for him initially—he’s the classic “protective male love interest” with a dark past and big house. But rereading it now? The red flags are practically neon. I don’t hate him, but I sure as hell don’t love him anymore. I see the flaws now, and they’re big.

Lucien deserves his own paragraph. The sass, the banter, the reluctant ally energy? I ate it up. He had no reason to stick his neck out for Feyre and still did. He’s a mess, but he’s a fun mess, and I appreciated every second of his screen time.

And then… Rhysand. MY GOD. I could write a novel on him alone. Even just rereading his short appearances in this book made me feral. He walks in, owns every scene, and leaves you rethinking your entire fictional standards. He will forever be the love of my fictional life. Rereading this just confirmed it—no man in literature has ever matched his level. I will die on this hill.

So yeah. A Court of Thorns and Roses might not be perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. It opens the door to a world that completely took over my heart and hasn’t let go in nearly a decade. It’s the quiet before the storm. And now that I’ve finished it again? I’m SO ready to dive into the real deal. Because what’s coming next is the actual peak of romantasy literature.
