It was like a game, you see, and for every one you got right you were to give yourself a point. The highest points were 30 or more and the lowest points were 15 or less. And for the 15 or less one they wrote, and I quote, "You think everyone thinks like you do. You should never be issued a passport or even be allowed out of the house. You have little concept that the rest of the world is different from you and you think that it's always the same time and season all over the world. You are probably an American."
Well how insulting! I thought that I had 15 points or less too but I think I did my points wrong, but still this is very insulting and a lot to assume about everyone who reads this book that doesn't quite measure up to the authors' view of what everyone should know. Cause here's the thing, just because someone may have gotten 15 points or less doesn't mean they think everyone thinks like them. It could just mean that they don't know what all those signs mean like me. I didn't even see some of them before, and others I just didn't know what they meant in other countries. But just because I or anyone else didn't know what they meant in other countries, doesn't mean we think it's supposed to mean the same thing as it does in our country! Maybe the book should have been encouraging to people who got 15 points or less to go out MORE and experience the world, go to other countries and LEARN these signs and their meanings!
Then to assume that those who got 15 points or less are American is also insulting, I'm sure there are other people from other countries that don't know all these signs either. I would also add that just because someone is American doesn't mean that's the reason they don't know these signs and their meanings they probably just don't travel much! Also just because their American, and they may have gotten 15 points or less, doesn't mean they think the way you (the authors) have depicted!
Ok I'm done with my rant now. Sorry about that but I had to let it out somewhere and since I can't really comment on a book I thought this was the next thing to it....more
