" Let me start with the positivity because really this book deserves it. Books like this make me fall in love with reading all over again. Gives me the warm fuzzies. Michael page is an excellent narrator for this book and really really brought the characters to life. I always will have some soft spot for a rag tag band of brothers, add to that the thieving component and I’m just so here for it. I LOVED this book.

All of the following things are very minor and mostly preference but I would be lying if I had said they didn’t stick with me

1. After killing Calo and Galdo don’t show me them immediately after in the flashbacks. Their deaths were great and I was of course distraught, but then you see them right after in an interlude

1a. Because I forgot, Bondsmagi needed more. I simply don’t buy “money” even Luciano said that he went above and beyond so I just had a hard time with that.

2. I just wanted MORE of the gentleman bastards being bastards. The highlights of this book for me were in the middle of them in the act. The beginning with the first touch and seeing it all play out with the hand signals and acting, and the chapter with Locke going for new clothes. I felt the book was its strongest here and I would have wanted much more of this than the story we got

3. This brings me to my third point, another of my favorite parts of the book were the interludes. I loved seeing the bastards grow up and I really almost wish he would’ve made that its own book and really added onto it. Completely my preference but that’s what I like and wanted more lol

4. I really didn’t like why Locke went back. I really disagree with that. He was never a soft hearted person and for him to decide he needs to save the people? Idk I didn’t like it, it felt like a very “hero” thing to do and that’s not Locke and not what I wanted out of this story. IF you’re thinking “but he had to go back to use them to sink the ship because he couldn’t do it on his own” or something, I wish Lynch would have made a few of these things clear.

Enough nitpicking, the ending was really damn good. I loved Locke using the coin and calling back to Jean. Big fan of the way he had dudes SCOOPING SHIT ...more "
