"i may get disowned for this, but i have to speak my truth: it's not really speakin to me so far. definitely some really great parts, but there's just hella characters with somehow nothing happening at all, and i also find his writing style offputting. i like maximalist writing, but his sentences just feel like they're circlejerking themselves while not really saying much of anything.

That said, I have faith."

Malcolm X
“The white conservatives aren't friends of the Negro either, but they at least don't try to hide it. They are like wolves; they show their teeth in a snarl that keeps the Negro always aware of where he stands with them. But the white liberals are foxes, who also show their teeth to the Negro but pretend that they are smiling. The white liberals are more dangerous than the conservatives; they lure the Negro, and as the Negro runs from the growling wolf, he flees into the open jaws of the "smiling" fox.”
Malcom X

Jorge Luis Borges
“Mirrors and copulation are abominable, since they both multiply the numbers of men.”
Jorge Luis Borges, Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius

Benoît B. Mandelbrot
“For most of my life, one of the persons most baffled by my own work was myself.”
Benoît B. Mandelbrot

Adam Haslett
“I had never understood before the invisibility of a human. How what we take to be a person is in fact a spirit we can never see.”
Adam Haslett, Imagine Me Gone

Chief Seattle
“Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.”
Chief Seattle
