To be told not to read something over and over again and then to do so anyway is troubling or perhaps some sort of experiment to see if people ever do as their told when there is no reason to do so. Although it is true, the events that happen in the book are truly dreadful and sad, although it is also at times humorous. For some reason I find the movie and tv show more humorous, as Lemony Snicket's narration although it does describe absurd situations and impossibly ridiculous events, is indeed sad and full of woe and despair. If I didn't know this was fiction I would be sobbing inconsolably that such children exist. However I also know that fiction often has hidden truths that tell us about the world we live in, so I still sob inconsolably that such children could exist, that the inspiration for such sad events could only come from the dreadful world we live in. I'm sorry to say I have not finished these books, I have read books 5 through 8, and the unauthorized autobiography of Lemony Snicket, so along with not holding even a college degree or being a qualified writer in any way, I am miserably unfit to write a review of these sad, sad, books. I have speculated that Lemony Snicket is actually Count Olaf and he has a split personality and the woman he loved was the children's mother. I have also speculated that Poe is not to be trusted at all and was never their parent's lawyer, and I have yet to find out if these speculations are true or false. It is shocking that the children never suspect Poe. I also wonder why Georgina Orwell would be the name of such a terrible person, as George Orwell is a fantastic writer whose deliberations on society will live on in history for their accuracy and entertainment value. I suppose it just makes her more evil. Lemony Snicket uses lots of big words which at times make him sound like an annoying show off, not that it's bad to know big words, just that it is a more important thing to have people understand you. However, I suppose that's part of the charm of the narration, which can at times be annoying, due to repetition. It does have wonderful imagery. However mostly it's entertaining. That's all this super unqualified person has to say. ...more "
