They visited every summer at Suzannah’s beach house in Cousins Beach and passed down their tradition to their kids. Ever since then Belly and Steven would always go with their mom to visit Suzannah and her kids, Conrad and Jeremiah. Now being a bit older, Belly has changed completely but she still has the desire of her 10 year old crush Conrad but when he shows a significant change to who he used to be, Belly doesn’t like it and now doesn’t know whether she wants Conrad or Jeremiah, the boy who’s so caring, open, and understanding to Belly.

Before jumping into this amazing novel, there are a few basic things that are a need to know. For starters, Belly’s dad and mom are divorced so it’s just her mom and her brother living together which makes it significantly hard for Laurel to commit fully as a mother with all of the overwhelming stress. Suzzanah and Lauren were both best friends when they were younger and they grew up together each and every summer at the beach house. This is an important aspect to the setting and story because the tradition makes a better comfort for the setting and not more of an unusual setting and adds a more comforting appeal to the situation that Belly is about to proceed into. Belly has liked Conrad for about 10 years and still manages to find herself crushing on him to this point of the beginning of the novel which is significant to the plot because it changes a lot of aspects on many things. The family always looked at Belly as a young immature girl who was always overdramatic, overreactive, and way too overprotective but now things have changed and she’s now grown up and has blossomed into a young woman changing her ways that she thinks about things which allows a significant change to the characters and how the perceive her as compared to when they were little in the summer’s before this one.

The authenticity of the novel The Summer I Turned Pretty shows an incredible aspect of a young teenage girl with the dilemma of liking two different guys at the same time. The challenges that she faces between the two puts her in quite a headspin and that’s more relative to the real world because facing problems of liking two different people can be challenging at times. With Belly also having an older brother, the struggle of hanging out with the boys together is always frustrating because she is never able to go with them because she is known as the “baby sister” and no one wants the baby sister to go with anywhere. This is quite similar to the real world because the overall image of taking your younger siblings anywhere makes you look like you're always with your younger siblings and it’s “not cool” to most people so they would rather ignore the fact that they have one and exclude them from the real world. Overall this novel has many realistic qualities in real life where it gives an outstanding approach of being able to compare and understand a significant amount better. ...more "
