This book has honestly blown me away. The characters, the character depth and growth, the plot, the atmosphere, the writing, the author’s intelligence that shines through in small details, the author’s intentionality, the pacing, the world building, the palpable tension…. I can go on and on. It’s all so magnificent. I had no idea what to expect when starting this book (I read it as a buddy read, at the suggestion of my friend), but I cannot be happier that I read this.

I have to take a moment to mention my profound love for the protagonists, Helena Marino and Kaine Ferron. Helena is the exact type of female protagonist I want to read about. She’s strong, brave, beautiful, intelligent, loyal… I so badly wanted to protect her throughout the story. And Kaine is officially on my book boyfriend list. He is everything.

I know there is a lot of comparison of this book to the author’s Harry Potter fanfic, Manacled. In the beginning of the story, I definitely kept trying to tie characters in this book to Harry Potter characters. But honestly, I very quickly forgot to keep doing this because this book is its very own book and story, one that, to me, feels completely separate and unique from the Harry Potter universe. If I didn’t know that the author had written a fanfic, the Harry Potter universe would not have even come to my mind. Also, the book definitely deals with some very dark topics, but I personally feel that the author handled these topics very well.

In short, Alchemised is everything and more. I don’t even know how I am going to move on from this book- I am already in the worst book hangover. My only complaint about the book is that I wish there was even more to it. 1000/10 ⭐️s.
