When I tell you it was perfect I mean PERFECT. I have not a single complaint about this book. I fear it was BETTER than by top 3 favorite books of all time: Shatter Me, Hunger Games, and KOTW. Unfortunately they don't even come close.

First, the characters are actually too good. I love Violet so much. At first I wasn't sure but by 200 pages in I loved her. She worked so hard and is so brave and strong and she's literally such a girlboss. Her and Xaden having the most powerful dragons and signets had me giggling at how perfect the whole thing is. And don't even get me started on the dragons. Andarna is such a cutie patootie and Tairn is so sassy. Tairn literally carried this book. And then of course there's Xaden...

WHEN I TELL YOU THIS MAN HAD ME GIGGLING, ROLLING AROUND, GRINNING, BITING MY HAND, AND LITERALLY DROOLING I AM NOT EXAGGERATING. I NEED THAT MAN SO BAD I AM IN PHYSICAL AGONY OVER IT. HE COULD STAB ME, DROWN ME, CHEAT ON ME, I DON'T CARE I WOULD STILL BE IN AWE OF HIM. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO BE SO PERFECT?!?!?!?! I genuinely don't get it. I've never read about another fictional man who is this perfect except of course for our favorite short king Aaron Warner. But honestly...Aaron is short and blonde while Xaden is tall with dark hair so that technically makes him better. Looks aside though, Xaden would still be better. I know. It's crazy. Aaron has been my number 1 for 4 years now. I never thought I'd see the day when he was dethroned but I guess the day has come. Every time Xaden's NAME was even MENTIONED I actually blushed or giggled or drooled or all 3 at once. Every word he spoke, every action he took, every decision he made was absolutely scrumptiously perfect. He is the most delicious man I have ever read about. I was actually tripping over my own feet at the thought of him. Stretching during dance? Thinking about him. Eating? Thinking about him. Trying to sleep? Thinking about him. Every second of my day I just wanted to go home and read about him forever. Violet is better than me because I would have climbed that man like a tree and never let go.

Speaking of...the romance in this book was really something else. I don't know how I managed to read this with a straight face in class because on the inside I was dying. The slow burn was the perfect length, the tension was tensioning, the bond was bonding. I don't even have words really. “I would rather lose this entire war than live without you, and if that means I have to prove myself over and over, then I'll do it. You gave me your heart, and I'm keeping it.” Like hello?!

Now that we got my Xaden glazing out of the way I wanna take a second to defend my queen Rebecca. Some people seem to think that this book is a copy of "every other YA fantasy" specifically Cruel Prince and ACOTAR. I definitely see similarities especially in the cruel prince BUT a lot of the elements are very broad and could be used in any genre of book. At least for the most part. However I think this book is very unique. The bond between Dragon and Rider is very unique to this book and the world building and magic system were very well planned out unlike some other less good books(I'm looking at you Caraval). I thought the writing was so so so good. I genuinely mean this with my whole entire heart, there is NOTHING I would change about this book. There were no moments that made me cringe or that I thought didn't help build the plot. Nothing. It was just perfect. If you don't like this book because it's "like every other YA fantasy" then respectfully, you are just being dramatic because you want to be different and hate a popular book(it's popular for a reason chat).

I did cry for a good half hour throughout the last 50ish pages or so. I'm not saying I would change this because I think it was good for the plot development but (view spoiler)

I won't bore you with a million quotes but since I didn't annotate I'm gonna put a few for myself.

1. “I am completely, utterly obsessed with Xaden.” - real #feltthat

Okay that's actually it.

Anyways now I just want to thank Gia and Riya for convincing me to read this 100000000000/5 book. You guys helped me find my one true love and surprisingly it wasn't a nonchalant dreadhead or a chalant curlyhead. It was this whole entire book.

This book is genuinely the best thing I have ever laid eyes on and everyone and their mother should read this before they die. Actually if I die just read this to me and I can guarantee that I will come back to life. #IneedXadenRiorsenIMMEDIATELY

PS I called the plot twist from the very last page almost immediately not to brag or anything ...more "
