I thought the ideas that the author wanted us to understand were pretty much well explained and that it was interesting to read about how, in a way, every society is controlled and I liked how he pointed out the fake freedom and fake liberty of speech. How people are pushed to hate each other in a way and think only of the parti and not think with their own mind but think together. As a whole, not as an individual. Which allows the parti to control them easier because they don’t have an opinion of their own.

What I liked less was the story. Sometimes I don’t understand all these difficult speeches and things about politics so I like when there is an interesting story on the side so it’s more in easier to understand. I thought the two protagonist were strange ( in a way everyone is) but I didn’t like them. Julia wasn’t really fighting for the freedom of everybody she just wanted adventure. She only cared about herself and her pleasure and the thrill that brought the fact that she told herself she was against the parti. But it didn’t seem like her convictions were that strong. On the other side, Winston realizes the state of the world and the control the parti has over them but I almost feels like he is a little crazy.
I remember the first time he saw Julia watching her in the street, he was afraid and said something like : “ I wanted to run after her, rape her and then kill her.”
Why rape her though?
And it also disgusted me how the parti was controlling the children and asking them to spy on their parents. When Winston was a child he had told stories about how he was selfish toward her little sister and mother. He was an awful child. When I read all of that about him, I thought that the society he lives in made him like that and that he is like the others : weak and selfish. But I also thought about how, maybe, a part of him was a little mad.

In the middle of the book, when he was reading Goldenstein’s book, I found it boring. Maybe it’s just me and I don’t understand it well, again, I liked the ideas but it was going to slow and maybe was too difficult for me to really stick to the story. I took me some time to finish it.

I’m still glad I read it, because the author talks about a really important subjects so even if it took some time and some parts were quite long, I would read it again,
