To me, "Master and Man" can be almost haunting in the questions it brings up.
Tolstoy is a master story-teller. At times, it gets into moralizing. However, it's a nice refrain from the tepid, contemporary, overly cautious post-modern stories I usually read. Perhaps the greatest benefit to reading these stories is that they cause me to remember that there is such thing as good and evil and that the choices one makes actually matter....more
