Speak, I would relate to a lot of teenage movies, or teenage life. The beginning of the book it talks about how Mel (Melinda) *the main character* did something wrong over the summer, an turned out everyone hated her just because she called the cops at the biggest party of the summer. It doesn’t help that she’s going into high school and she’s is scared to death about what it’s going to be like, and she has to go to school with everyone hating her. I relate to this book because I know teenage in my high school that have done something that got them to be hated by basically the whole school. I think I would relate mostly to Heather, she’s a new girl in town. She didn’t have any friends she was kind of like Melinda, but Melinda went to school there already. They became friends, and Heather wanted to be in a group in school, or fit in somehow. She’s trying to join the Martha’s; it’s like a frat but for high school. They make you do things to become a Martha. One of the things Heather had to do was not be friends with Melinda because she was a nobody and the ‘Martha’s’ didn’t want her to be friends with her. All Heather wants to do it fit in. I don’t want to fit in, but when I was in like middle school that’s all I cared about. Now, that I’m in high school it really doesn’t matter to me.
I would recommend this book to anyone. Guys; might not to read it because they thing they would be called ‘weird’ or something by reading it just because it’s talking about a girl who’s been raped, but it really doesn’t matter about what people think. It really like open your eyes, and you kind of feel how some of your high school classmates feel. You might not know and someone your sitting next to in your Geometry class could be going through the same thing that Melinda is going through in her freshman year of high school.
In this book Melinda the main character is telling the story, it’s in her point of view. I think what the author did for having her tell the story was a great idea, because you know what she was doing, and how’s she’s thinking when all this happened.
If I were to rate this book in stars, I would have to give it a 4. Laurie Halse Anderson did a really good job of keeping you hooked. Like she gives you so many details, she hints around to things to keep you guessing, and to keep you interested in the books. I think the author did a really good job on getting her point across.
Honestly, I don’t know what the author was trying to tell the readers. My final conclusions about the book is very good. I really enjoyed reading this book. It really got me thinking about what people are like in my high school. The book really wasn’t that confusing because I understood what was going on because the author gave me a lot of details. She made me think that I was in the book, and it felt like I was Melinda. I think Laurie did a good job at explaining how Melinda feels and felt at that point in time. How I feel about the ending, I knew it was going to happen, I kind of knew how the ending was going to go down, because of how many details she *Melinda* was telling us, and how she wouldn’t talk to hardly anyone.

“I wasted the last weeks of August watching bad cartoons. I didn’t go to the mall, the lake, or the pool, or answer the phone. I have entered high school with the wrong hair, the wrong clothes, the wrong attitude. And I don’t have anyone to sit with. I am Outcast.”
I think the title is good for this book because Melinda really doesn’t talk to many people. She hardly talks to her parents. They leave sticky notes on the refrigerator to talk. So I think that’s why Laurie Halse Anderson picked this as the title. ...more "
