" I LOVED Annie Bot. There was a lot to unpack here, but the character of Annie draws you in from the start, she even seems more human than her human "owner" Doug. Doug constantly messes with Annie's mind pulling her in close but then reminding her she I LOVED Annie Bot. There was a lot to unpack here, but the character of Annie draws you in from the start, she even seems more human than her human "owner" Doug. Doug constantly messes with Annie's mind pulling her in close but then reminding her she is just a machine in his eyes. Doug was authoritarian and cruel, and even Delta sensed this even though she was not considered as advanced as Annie yet. However I even found Doug pulling me back in at some points because at the end I wanted to believe he would see Annie as an equal and as a thing with feelings, but I just couldn't get past what he did to her, just like Annie. Even at the end when he "gave her her freedom" it felt like too big of a switch for him for it to be genuine. There would always be that master/servant dynamic to them, which I think mirrors a lot of human relationships we see today as well...

I also really connected with Annie in the way her mind worked, she reminded me of someone with anxiety. She was constantly watching for Doug's reaction and needing reassurance and it reminded me of myself, constantly wondering and gauging how others are reacting to me and what I say, going back and wondering if I did anything wrong and if I did what was it. With Annie it was even more painful when Doug was so cruel because she did not understand what she had said or done to set him off. I cried for Annie so many times.

I also think it's so interesting to consider that Annie was traumatized. Even though she was turned off in the closet when Doug locked her in, she was traumatized by it and could never get over it. I also want to mention that Doug always reminded her she was HIS machine, but if he really thought she was just a machine how could he be so upset with her having sex with someone else? I think he wanted her to be "real" because he felt shame that she was a robot, but he also wanted something to control and he could not do that as affectively with human women.

Anyways there are more layers to this that I could go into, but in the end I love that Annie proved she was almost more human than anyone else because she chose to help others. I just loved her so much, I won't soon be forgetting this book. ...more "
