"'Arbeit und Struktur' und 'Ist das ein Mensch' haben mich ziemlich stark getroffen. Ich habe danach ein eigenes Buch angefangen und extrem viel geschrieben (ca. 70-80 Seiten). Jeden Tag sich bewusst werden: Der Tod ist nichts Abstraktes. Dass man wirklich nur noch 3 Monate zu leben haben könnte. Bücher haben mich seitdem null interessiert. Immer wieder etwas angefangen und zur Seite gelegt." — Aug 23, 2026 09:16AM

“Because even if the universe is lifespan is calculable, the variety of life that is generated within it is not. The buildings we have erected, the art and music and verse we have composed, the very lives we’ve led: none of them could have been predicted, because none of them was inevitable. Our universe might have slid into equilibrium admitting nothing more than a quiet hiss. The fact that it spawned such plenitude is a miracle, one that is matched only by your universe giving rise to you.
Though I am long dead as you read this, explorer, I offer to you a valediction. Contemplate the marvel that is existence, and rejoice that you are able to do so. I feel I have the right to tell you this because, as I am inscribing these words, I am doing the same.” (56-57)”

“No one can be independent of other people completely, so why not give up the attempt, she thought, go running in the other direction, depend on people for everything, allow them to depend on you, why not.”

“The universe began as an enormous breath being held. Who knows why, but whatever the reason, I'm glad it did, because I owe my existence to that fact. All my desires and ruminations are no more and no less than eddy currents generated by the gradual exhalation of our universe. And until this great exhalation is finished, my thoughts live on.”

“I don't want to care. If I care about things, it'll just be worse, it'll just be another thing to worry about. It's less painful if I don't care.”
