"30-ish chapters in and I got deep into a long reading slump before I picked the book again after so long. I can't lie about being bored in chapters where Albert and Franz were first introduced, especially when I read long narratives about the masquerades and theater scenes all felt dull to me, and I couldn't quite see the point of why they were described in such detail. This conversation between a father and his son hit too close to home... I found that most fathers (including my own) are hardly expresses how they felt toward their children. To see Johnny saying "I love you" to his son Peter makes me teared up a bit.
